Surfs up dude!

I was recently informed that my nephew Wil, who currently resides in Arizona, will be coming to visit Western Mass for a few weeks in late June into July. Leigh is very excited to have his nephew come home for a spell. He has even offered to have Wil stay with us for a week.

Rumor has it Wil is nervous about being here, possibly alone with me and having my water break! Wil is 15 and probably has seen too many movies.

Don't tell him that I have no plan on what to do if my water breaks either. I guess one of us should figure it out....

Knock. Knock

Went to dinner at my sister's house. My niece kept asking me if I wanted to run a race with her. I politely declined, each time , explaining that I was having a baby and unable to run around with her. Eventually she became curious about the "baby". She was afraid at first to feel the baby kick. Then it became fun.

She pointed to my belly button and asked "is this the door for the baby"?
Priceless.

Feed Me Damn it!

Sooo many women and men I might add, comment in awe about how wonderful it must be to eat whatever and whenever I want. Those of you who have had children recently, know this really isn't the case. First, the average caloric intake for a women who is not pregnant is 2,000 calories. Preggies only need about another 300 or so. That is the equivalent to a small yogurt or an apple.

Seriously? Seriously. So much for thinking I was finally going to experience the psychedelic wonderland of Willy Wonka's Chocolate factory full of chocolate rivers and waterfalls, giant edible mushrooms, tulips, whipped creme filled rocks, lickable wallpaper and other candies only a pregnant woman who can eat whatever she wants would enjoy...Yeah no. Small yogurt. Extra apple. Not too mention there are several of my favorite foods on the "no-no" list of safe and acceptable foods for the baby. Cold cuts. Pate. Brewery beer. Brie. Chinese food. Hot dogs. And my all time favorite: Sam's spicy tuna chip sushi. You can almost guess what my first meal request will be after the baby is born!

Jaws

An ultrasound photo that made me laugh. One of the baby yawning. Leigh calls the yawn pic "Jaws". He thinks it is more proof of the possibility of a devil child. I think it looks more like "HEY! What an AWESOME time I am having here! The accommodations and the food ROCK!
Mom, you rule"!

Counting the days...

So it is offical. I am on bed rest for the remainder of the pregnancy. No work. No laundry. No gardening. No nothing.
3 more months to be exact. On day 2. So far enjoying waking up late, napping and CSI reruns. The peanut is enjoying it as well. S/he is celebrating Mama's current horizontial positioning by showing off her/his gymnastic skills. Cartwheels seem to be a particular favorite..
Only 90 more days to go. But who is counting?!?

Up All Night

I was going to entitled this "Up All Night, Part One", however, who wants to read "Up All Night, Part 306"? in 3 months?!? I have currently been awake since 2:30am. Several factors contributed to this including (Anira DON'T read this part)! Bat in roof space above my head. Printer printing in the next room mysteriously and the ultimate urge to peeeeeeeeeee. Woke up Leigh too. Informed him he was in training for late nights ahead. The rule is, If Mama is awake, Daddy is awake.
That rule will change over time to If Mama is asleep, Mama stays asleep, Daddy is awake.
PS Birds are starting to sing outside..

Cerclage

No blogging for about 2 weeks. :(
Was home on bed rest after undergoing a procedure called a cerclage. The procedure was performed as a precaution to prevent a premature birth. The surgery lasted about 1 hour. I opted to not be fully anesthetized, so I was given a sedative through an IV and numbed from the waist down. I was fully awake for the surgery. Didn't feel a thing. Lower half of my body was completely dead weight for about 3 hours. Was not allowed to go home until I could squeeze and hold my butt cheeks!!
The surgery is comprised of putting a stitch in to close up my cervix like a drawstring handbag or a drawsdting trashbag. The stitch will be taken out around 35 weeks...

Angel or Devil?

We went to church this past Sunday to a memorial service for my father's passing. During the 45 min Catholic mass, the "peanut" (who technically I should rename "our potato" since it now weighs a full pound!) was the most active it has been so far. I concluded that the reverberation of the organ and the singing made the little potato happy and will be a music lover henceforth. :)

Leigh believes the answer is a little more biblical. I am giving birth to a redheaded she-devil, who was trying to escape the womb just to avoid being in church. He backs up his theory with the old wives tale that if you are really sick in the start of your pregnancy that you will have a girl. I was sick for two months straight.

Lord help Leigh.

I say Bring It On!!

Belly Pics @ 21 weeks

As of today I am 22 weeks. I have gained 8 pounds. Apparently from this point on I can expect to gain 1 pound a week.

Here are a few belly pics. Someday I'll look at these and laugh right??

Sonic Merriam

Our good friend Brett, called this picture "Sonic Merriam". One of Leigh's nicknames was "Speedy Boots".

I have to admit this is one of my favorite pictures so far. The feet are quite cute. 10 fingers and 10 toes.

More Pics

From 8 weeks to 20 weeks. Both mothers came to this visit. Grammy Pat did not close her eyes when the legs were scanned! What!?! However, not all was lost. Ends up the tech says our Peanut's legs were too scrunched up to tell the sex.

Whew..it will still be a surprise!

Grammy Pat also thinks in this picture the Peanut has Leigh's nose.

Ultrasound Pictures

First let me say I do not know the sex of the baby. I DO NOT plan on finding out. When the ultrasound tech scans and measures the baby's legs all eyes are closed! Here is the first picture of our "peanut".

Here We Go!

So here we go.
40years old and pregnant. Now what?!?
On this site I will post the most asked for "belly" pictures, ultrasound pictures and in a few months baby pictures!
Enjoy!
